Deveron Projects and TOADS, an outdoor education group for 5-11 year olds based in Aberdeenshire, co-selected artist Susie Dalton to co-design and initiate the build of a garden shelter in Brander Gardens, Huntly.

The work was undertaken as part of Deveron Project’s Growing Together Project, funded by CSGN Growing Food Together Fund.

Working in collaboration with TOADS, who love clay and wanted a cosy shelter made of environmentally friendly materials, a design for a wattle and daub structure was created. The shelter will feature a range of ceramic tiles and figurines created by TOADS. This structure is in the process of being built, and will be completed in September 2024.

The work with TOADS was featured on Out of Doors on BBC Radio Scotland. It also made front page news in the Huntly Express.

Christine Steiner, leader of TOADS outdoor education project, said:

“I have to say, it is such a joy working with Susie, she takes childrens opinions, needs and choices so well in account, is patient and has an open ear for everyone. It is great to experience her professional attitude to the whole project and we are all so happy with the choice the kids have made.”
